Nominated by her volleyball coach, Berkeley Oblad was selected by the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) as one of the top volleyball players in the country. She was chosen to represent the 2014 -2015 Under Armour Girls High School All-American Class on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

“I didn’t know about it until my coach told me at practice on Tuesday that I was chosen,” Oblad said. “I was shocked and excited!”

The American Volleyball Coaches Association is a group of volleyball coaches nationwide that scout out the best players in the country through nominations by high school coaches. To be nominated, students must participate in athletics during their senior year and are required to have been nominated by their high school coach, who is a member of the AVCA. The student-athlete’s individual statistics are compared to all opponents for the season on MaxPreps before selection.

“It means I was nominated as one of the best players in the country. It’s an honor to be on this list with many other players,” Oblad said.

Oblad, the starter for varsity all four years of high school, is verbally committed to play volleyball at the University of Utah and will be signing with them soon.

“My mom played in high school, and when we moved here from San Ramon, California, she signed me up for a club team called Vegas. I’ve been playing since I was eight years-old, for about nine years,” Oblad said.

Under Armour sponsors the occasion. The company is a leading marketer, distributor, and developer of branded performance apparel, footwear, and accessories.
