Bears4Love is hosting Colors4Cancer, a week-long cancer awareness campaign.

Members will be in the quad selling wristbands from March 7-14 to benefit Candlelighters, a nonprofit organization that provides aid and support for children who have life-threatening diseases and their families.

The wristbands, in packs of five for $3, will be sold on March 7 and 10. Each wristband is brightly colored, representing one of the most common cancers with their awareness color. The wristbands also include slogans to promote awareness for each cancer, such as “On Wednesdays we wear pink for breast cancer.”

The week of awareness is: Monday, bone cancer; Tuesday, leukemia; Wednesday, breast cancer; Thursday, lung cancer; Friday, melanoma. Students are encouraged to wear the corresponding color to show their support.

“Colors4Cancer is a great way to spread awareness for some of the more prevalent cancers while engaging the whole school,” Claire Kimsey, senior, said.

Students who purchase a wristband will be given a raffle ticket and a chance to win a $20, $15, or $10 Starbucks gift card.

All proceeds will be donated to Candlelighters.
