Super typhoon Haiyan hit the Philippines four months ago, sweeping away homes, businesses, and Luneta Elementary School. In an effort to rebuild the lives of the students there, National Honor Society will host a crayon drive to assist Anna Bailey, a junior living in the Philippines, to put together care packages with necessary school supplies.

NHS is asking that students bring in boxes of 24 crayons in order to reach Bailey’s goal of 800 boxes and provide for the children attending Luneta. All donations can be brought to Mrs. Mattox’s room 910, March 10 through March 15.

“Never underestimate the value of what you can do for someone, no matter how small it seems,” Bailey said.

Bailey is also applying for a grant to aid in the school’s reconstruction. She hopes to give every child a backpack with school supplies for the new year, and in turn, give a bit of hope beyond the chaos that they had to endure.

“These kids have almost nothing, and a box of crayons from people who care about them and what they are going through will mean the world to them,” Bailey said.
