The track and field athletes beat the wind at the meet against Liberty on Tuesday, April 22.

Due to the incredible wind speeds, both the pole vault and high jump events had to be postponed until the next day. These events were deemed too dangerous with the wind interfering, but other events were made harder as well.

“Running against the wind is really hard — none of us enjoyed it — but I think we’ve done well overall,” Shelby Burdo, freshman hurdler, said.

Seniors Nicholas Manasewitch, David McCormick, Logan Lucas, Sara Dort, and Morgan Mavroudis, juniors Brandon Brown, Christian Alvarez-Muhammad, Olivia Arriola, Michaela Morris, and Haleigh Piotrowski, sophomores Colin Schaefer, Walker Wright, Jessica Attebery, and freshman Charleen Jordan finished first in their respective events throughout this two-day meet.

Boys finished 80-66 overall, and the girls won with a margin of 106-44.

“The weather definitely posed a problem, but everyone was tough and continued to perform very well,” Coach Bolken said.

There are only two more away meets this season. One will be at Eldorado on April 29, and the next at Green Valley on May 2. Then, Coronado athletes will move on to regionals.

“Qualifying for regionals requires a certain time for each type of race, but I think a good majority of us are going to qualify because everyone on the team is great,” Catalina Camacho, senior, said.
