Cougars lose by one

The Cougars started off the men’s varsity baseball game with Jackson Cofer, senior, pitching to the Liberty Patriots. At the end of the first inning the Cougars were down 2-0.

At the top of the second inning, first baseman Austin Garcia, senior, and second baseman Derek Clelan, senior, turned a double play. By the end of the third, the Cougars were down 4-0.

Caden Spilsbury, senior, got a double off a bunt and in the process allowed two runners to score in the fourth inning.

At the top of the seventh Jacob Klein, sophomore, pitched for the Cougars.

In the last inning, Tanner Bellamy made a quick pass to first base for the first out and proceeded to catch the next ball for the second out. Jacen Yergensen, junior, caught the last ball for the third out.

The game ended with the Cougars behind the Patriots 4-3.

The next game will be played at Coronado against Faith Lutheran on Saturday, May 3, at 3:30 p.m.
