The softball team played a non-league game on Friday, May 9, against Valley for their senior day.

 

During the bottom of the first inning Jaiden Johnson, sophomore, started the inning off with a bunt that turned into a single. After a wild pitch and two players on base Danielle Amato, senior, hit a single to the third baseman. Johnson tried to score a run, but was called out at the plate. During Basia Query’s, sophomore, at bat, the pitcher miss pitched, throwing the ball behind her, allowing Brooke Younie, sophomore, to score and Query to run to first. Jillian James, freshman, hit a single up the middle which allowed Amato to score, putting the Cougars up 2-0.

 

The girls maintained good defense as they kept their lead. In the bottom of the fifth, Younie hit a single to right field; Dylan Underwood, freshman, came into pinch run. After a single by Query, Underwood advance to third. James hit a sacrifice pop-up to center allowing Underwood to score.

 

In the bottom of the sixth, Nicole Hardy, senior, hit a single. Hardy advanced after a wild pitch to Marisa Kopp, freshman. Kopp placed a sacrifice bunt in front of the plate, allowing Hardy to advance to third. Johnson hit a double allowing Hardy to score.

 

At the top of the seventh inning, Katie Dawson, senior, relieved pitched for James. The final play was a hit back to the pitcher with a throw to first, back to second, ending the game with a double play. Dawson ended the game with a save.

 

The Cougars won 4-0 against the Valley Vikings. The start play-offs Tuesday, May 13, at 3:30 p.m. against the Green Valley Gators at The Cage.
