Students crowded into the gym to attend the annual fine arts assembly on Friday, Dec. 12. Each year, classes are shortened for one day to allow time for the fine arts department to showcase their progress to the student body.

“This is one of my favorite assemblies and I look forward to attending every year,” Samantha Beasley, senior, said.

After opening remarks made by seniors Austin Kost and Sierra Allison, the assembly began with a performance by the Cougarettes dance team. Up next, a rendition of “Christmas Don’t be Late” from the barbershop quartet received loud applause from the students in attendance. Senior Kimberly Mendoza sings bass in the school group.

“I really enjoy expressing myself through music, especially during the holidays,” Mendoza said.

The theater department was then represented by the Salway twins, Carly and Cambry, who performed “Sisters” from the holiday classic, White Christmas.

“It’s always a great experience performing with my sister,” [Cambry] Salway said.

With songs like the “Grinch Medley” performed by advanced guitar, and “The Christmas Festival” by symphonic band and orchestra groups, the final performance was a collaboration of each department performing the song, “Dragonborn” from the video game Skyrim.

“It was really fun to collaborate with all of the other performing arts groups to perform such a powerful song,” Mara LeVan, senior, said.
