Organized and supported by the Future Medical Professionals Club, the blood drive took place Friday, Jan 30 in the auxiliary gym from 8 a.m. to 1:15 p.m.

“The students work so hard to prepare the event and learn so many valuable leadership and organizational skills,” Mrs. Jackson, science teacher, said.

The blood collected will go to United Blood Services to help out those in need. The students in the club contacted the foundation to arrange a time and a date for the drive. They also assisted in the mandatory screenings before donating.

“I donate blood because it’s for a good cause and blood is needed a lot. I have been interested in donating for the last two years but I wasn’t 17 yet,” Kaitlin Dute, junior, said.

Students had to fill out a form to ensure that they were 17 in order to get their blood drawn.

“To prepare I took a lot of vitamins and ate healthy food the night before. I had a big healthy breakfast this morning,” Dute said.

Healthy snack bars were provided for the students getting their blood drawn. Drinks such as Gatorade and vitamin-filled juices were set up in the gym to help the students’ avoid getting dizzy or feeling tired.
