The men’s varsity volleyball team faced Foothill High School in a home conference match on Wednesday, April 29. Cougars won 3-1.

Starting off the first set, the Falcons served, but the Cougars quickly put up their defense and blocked spikes by the Falcons. Ryan Garlick, sophomore, and Karriem Beyah, senior, were both able to make kills early on in the set.

Nearing the end of the first set, Cole Gerrard, senior, scored an ace, but the Falcons still managed to come through, winning the first set 25-23.

During the second set, the Falcons made defensive moves to block the Cougar shots, but spikes from Johnson and Beyah, along with seniors Travis Little and Matt Johnson gave the Cougars the win 25-20.

The Cougars scored points early on in the third set with more spikes from Johnson and Beyah and an ace from Sam Cox, senior. The Cougars strong defensive plays kept the Falcons from scoring giving the Cougars the lead 25-18.

In the final set, the Cougars started with the ball and quickly scored an ace. Johnson spiked the ball, giving the Cougars a small lead. Beyah, on fire near the end of the fourth set, racked up more spikes and more points, and the Cougars won 25-16.

“I think that we played well together, and I think staying together and staying confident as a team helped us win,” Matt Johnson, senior, said.

The Cougars are 20-15 and have another conference game against Bonanza at home tonight at 6 p.m.
