It is the time of year when girls dress up like princesses and guys wear fancy suits. It is the time of year when you feel like royalty cruising down the street in a limo with a personal driver. It is the time for homecoming season, and there are steps to take to be ready when the day comes.

The first step is gathering a group. The bigger the better, so save the double dates for the weekend. Having a date is not necessary, so feel free to gather up some bffs and have a girls or even guys night out.

Boys, let’s get one thing straight, the typical “let’s kick it at homecoming” poster for the cute soccer player just doesn’t cut it. Creating an original poster is a requirement these days. Keep in mind her favorite flowers because it can make a great addition to the proposal.

Most guys hate shopping but having mommy go pick out a tux isn’t going to fly, so visit Men’s Wearhouse to snag a tux for a decent price. Don’t forget to have the tux fitted, a clean look makes for a better, more handsome looking date.

“Men’s Wearhouse has some really contemporary cuts in the suits, and the tuxedos are very nice,” Kyle Bowman, sophomore, said.

Dress shopping can be stressful, but knowing where to shop can ease the tension a bit. Dillard’s has dresses in every style for reasonable prices. However, if online shopping is a consideration, go to a store and try on a dress with a similar fit and color to ensure there are no last minute returns and headaches over it.

For a more laid back night, head over to Green Valley Ranch, Town Square to catch a movie after dinner, and for a little bit rather of a drive head over to Tivoli Village.

“My favorite thing about Green Valley Ranch is that it is a great place to hang out with your friends and has one of my favorite places to eat, Fatburger,” Kennedy DiLaura, freshman, said.

Town Square has a variety of restaurants like California Pizza Kitchen and Claim Jumper. Along with an indoor bowling alley at Game Works to burn of the calories following dinner, for a more chill and old-school type of night.

For a classier night, try Brio Tuscan Grill at Tivoli Village, an Italian themed district in Summerlin. Remember to make a reservation at least a week prior from the special night.

Having transportation figured out is key to paving the way to a perfect night. Presidential Limos Las Vegas has limos starting at $45 an hour up to $125, from three seaters to 25 seats. Another option is borrowing mom’s mini van and pimping it out.

“But first let me take a selfie,” more like “let me take a million pictures.” These are precious moments that will be looked on in the future, so don’t forget picture time. Thank mom later for nagging so much about it.

Do not forget to order a boutonniere or corsage in advance, and pick it up on the special day. Visit Teleflora.com to buy the corsage, and it will be hand-delivered to the porch by a neighborhood florist.

Make hair and nail appointments a few weeks in advance to ensure a solid spot and time at the salon. Call the day before to confirm everything, so it can run as smoothly as possible.

Ladies, bring a purse to hold the essentials like a cell phone, lipsticks and especially flats because walking around barefoot is not classy and extremely unsanitary. Gents, remember to bring tickets, extra cash, a phone. and a portable charger to keep mommy fully updated.

Overall homecoming should be a blast. Don’t let minor setbacks ruin the night, but make sure to be prepared for when the big day comes.
