Yes. They did it again. The women’s volleyball team won their third consecutive state championship Saturday, Nov. 14 at Foothill High School against Bishop Manogue from Reno. To get there, the women had to defeat Bishop Gorman in the regional match Friday night.

“The game was awesome because it was my senior year, so I was hoping we would finish it off strong. A lot of us have been playing together for so long, so it proves we worked hard,” Alyssa Newsom, senior, said.

The team has been dominant all season with 31 wins and only 10 losses. Coach Johnson has lead the team for six years. It is the first time in Coronado’s volleyball history that a team has won state three years in a row.

At the state meet, the Cougars lost their first match, but they came back stronger to win the next two matches. Carolyn Andrulis, senior, led the Cougars with 14 kills and 12 digs to go with four blocks and three aces. Senior Navi Lee added 10 kills and 10 digs.

“It felt exciting that we set a new record and expectation for Coronado and state. It was really exciting to be a part of a team and to come back after losing a game. It shows our capability,” Niki Hadighi, junior, said.
