With the temperatures dropping, it may be tempting to throw on a sweatshirt and sweatpants and sit inside for the entire day. Instead, dare to face the cold in style with this winter’s biggest fashion trends.

Flannels: Flannels have been a fashion essential since the revival of the nineties first began. Upgrade a simple t-shirt and jeans with an oversized flannel, layer it under bigger coats, or even tie it around your waist with a sweatshirt for an edgier look.

Faux fur: Fur vests, collars, hoods, and jackets have the ability to give a simple outfit a more luxurious or expensive feel, all while keeping the wearer warm. A fur vest layered over a sweater can be the perfect look for a holiday party or a night with friends.

Chunky knit sweaters: A thick knit sweater can look and feel divine as the weather gets chillier. While a chunky knit can look great under a jacket or a scarf, it can also be perfect to throw on by itself with a pair of jeans.

Boots: Boots of any kind can make their debut once the weather begins to cool down. Whether it be a pair of riding boots, ankle booties, or comfy Uggs, all boots will have their time in the spotlight this winter.

Dark colors: Everyone knows that winter is the perfect time to take on the dark side. Colors like burnt orange, burgundy, forest green, slate gray and mustard yellow are perfect for when the weather cools down or make a statement in all black attire.

Turtlenecks: Turtlenecks are making a comeback this year in a variety of shapes and sizes. Tops, sweaters, and even dresses are demonstrating this trend. If not quite ready to rock this trend full on, try a mock neck long sleeve that can be paired with jeans, a skirt, or can be layered under flannels and jackets.

Thick scarves: Thick scarves have the ability to dress up an outfit all while keeping the wearer nice and toasty in the winter air. In a variety of shapes, sizes, patterns, and colors, there is a scarf for everyone’s liking.

Oversized jackets: An oversized jean jacket can be perfect for someone with an edgy style, or wear a boxy blazer for a put-together but effortless look. Roll up the sleeves a bit and pair with some skinny jeans, ankle booties, and a cuff bracelet for a fashionable combo.

Metallics: Shiny metallic jewelry is all the rage year round, but why stop there? Shine bright this winter season with metallic shoes or a sparkly dress. A shimmery dress can be the perfect statement for a New Year’s party.

Beanies: Beanies make their return for the winter again and again, and this year is no exception.  As well as being a cute accessory, they will keep your head warm as the temperature drops. Try a beanie with a pom-pom on top or a fun saying embroidered on the front for an updated version of an old school favorite.
