Imagine going into winter break stress-free with no study guides and actually being able to relax during the time off from school. That’s exactly what will happen with the start of the 2017 school year. Classes will resume on August 9 and end in late May, that exact date has not been determined.

“The schedule we currently have doesn’t make academic sense,” Mr. Piccininni, principal, said.

With the new schedule, students will take semester exams before winter break and come back with a fresh start for second semester. Students will no longer be cramming all the information forgotten over winter break.

“This new change is better academically for AP classes because we won’t have that gap, so I think it is a win for both students and teachers,” Mrs. Hall, AP World History teacher, said.

Traditionally winter break is scheduled around Christmas and New Year’s Eve, and spring break is around Easter. Break lengths will stay the same and will continue to be centered around the holidays.

“Although the summer will be shorter before my senior year, I am glad for this change because time will be spent more effectively especially in AP classes, and it will be easier on us,” James Ryan, sophomore, said.
