The senior class held a grad rally on Thursday, Jan. 21 to provide details about the Disneyland Grad Nite. Mrs. Barlow, senior class adviser, announced that, unlike past years where only 120 spots were available, 400 spots are reserved for this year’s annual trip.

Seniors who wish to go on the trip are required to attend one of the six meetings before or after school. During the meeting, students received a packet with a preliminary information sheet requiring seniors to make sure they have no unpaid fees, no outstanding problems in the dean’s office, and a positive citizenship grade in each of their classes. This packet is to be turned into room 224 by Wednesday, Feb. 10.

Afterwards, Mrs. Barlow will post the list of 400 seniors eligible to go on the trip outside of her room and on the senior bulletin board. The students on the list must go see her in room 224 to pick-up the official packet which will check that each participant has submitted a medical form, field-trip permission slip, third quarter grade verification (to ensure there are no Fs), and the $160 fee.

The $160 will be used to cover the Disney park-hopper tickets, the buses, and the substitute teachers required to stand in for the teachers who chaperone the trip.

“The purpose of Grad Nite is to provide seniors the opportunity to meet other seniors from around the nation and provide a safe, secure, and sober way to celebrate the end of their high school careers,” Mrs. Barlow said. “I mean, it’s Disneyland.”

The seniors who complete everything and are eligible for the trip will arrive at school on Friday, May 20 at 7:30 a.m. ready to depart for Disneyland a half hour later. The buses full of ready-to-go students will arrive at Disneyland around noon that same day where they will be given free reign to explore Disneyland and California Adventure.

After the park closes at 10 p.m., seniors will gather in California Adventure for a series of grad parties and concerts throughout the park until 2 a.m. on Saturday, May 21. The bus will start its journey back to Coronado at 3 a.m. and arrive at approximately 7 a.m. on May 21.

“I’ve waited four years for this trip, and I’ve had a lot of friends who got to go,” Denee Kong, senior, said. “It’s so amazing to think that now it’s my turn.”

The packet and fee are due to room 224 by March 4 for all eligible seniors.
