Wrestlers defeat Eldorado in last home match

Varsity wrestling took the win at their last home match 58-3 against Eldorado on Wednesday, Jan. 27.

“It’s phenomenal seeing Coronado winning. It’s fun to see these guys wrestle hard. They train really hard five days a week for two to three hours, so anytime we get a win it’s always great,” Coach Kimball, said.

Aliyah Palermo, junior, started out the match, facing off Anthony Tolentino. In the first minute she scored two points with a takedown, but Tolentino took the first win 6-3.

Next up was Tim Conaway, sophomore, against Alonzo Rubio. Conaway took the lead with a reversal gaining two points in the second period. Conaway won 13-2.

Giacomo Morris, sophomore, went head-to-head against Isaac Rubio. Morris and Rubio went back and forth within the first two minutes, but Morris won 6-4.

Noah Schnieder, senior, went against Julio Perez and within three minutes Schnieder gained three points for a near fall. Schnieder won 11-2.

Jason D’Richards, junior, wrestled next against Francisco Gonzales, and even though it was a head-to-head game, Richards took another win 13-8.

Chris Gomez, senior, was up next against Fernando Rocha. Gomez lead over his opponent two points with a takedown in the first period, earning him another win 8-5.

Jordan Marzca battled next against N. Garcia. Marzca is one of the few freshmen on the varsity team, and he ended his night with a 10-1 victory.

Michael Gale, senior, went against Schroeder, pinning him to the ground within the first two minutes. Gale won 6-1.

Michael Carter, freshman, was up next against Buryaga. They went head-to-head within the first two minutes without either of them scoring. Carter ened the night with a win 6-0.

Kaysee Hawes, senior, went against Hernandez for the last fight of the match. Hawes “took down” his opponent in the first and second periods, securing the final win 6-1.

“I think [winning] is a great accomplishment. I really like winning, and I’m also so proud of my team because we’ve worked so hard,’ Jordan Marzca, freshman, said.
