Men’s varsity basketball captures Sunrise Regional Champ title, makes school history

The men’s varsity basketball team is headed to Reno to play in the state tournament. They trounced the Eldorado Sundevils last night capturing the Division I Sunrise Region title at Liberty High School winning 70-32.

“The team made history yesterday as this is the first Sunrise Division Championship title we have ever earned,” Jake Desjardins, senior, said.

Coronado outscored the Sundevils to make it 45-15 at halftime; they led 65-25 in the third quarter and continued to dominate in the fourth quarter for the win.

Kennedy Kohler, junior, led the team with 22 points while Nick Davis, junior, put 15 points on the board, Patrick Simms, sophomore, added 12 and Desjardins had 11.

The team will meet the Northern Region champion at 8 p.m. Thursday at UNR’s Lawlor Events Center.
