The Cougars out swam the Basic Wolves on Saturday, April 2 at the Henderson Multigenerational Center. The men’s team secured a victory with 171 points over Basic’s 86 points. The women defeated the Wolves 211 to 69.

The meet started with the women’s 200 medley relay. The A team, consisting of swimmers Deidra Smoak, junior, Sara Gong, junior, Tara Wise, sophomore, and Cassidy Schnitzler, senior, took first place with a time of 1:59.90. The Cougs also took first in the men’s 200 medley relay led by Juston Lee, junior, Tyler Miao, senior, Sean Marchewski, junior, and Parker Evans, senior. They finished in 1:45.47.

Camryn Beaudet, freshman, came in first for the women’s 500 freestyle, 400 freestyle, and 200 I.M. to gain points for Coronado. Only a freshman, Beaudet is already making a name for herself on the swim team by earning first place in all three of her events.

“My main goal this season is to drop time in my events and work on my technique in practice,” Beaudet said. “I’m going to really try to not rest in the backstroke during my 200 I.M. because that is what everyone tries to do.”

Coronado also beat Basic in the men’s and women’s 400 freestyle relay. Jalen Sando, freshman, Chih-Cheng Wu, junior, Miao, and Lee took home the win for the men’s team with a time of 3:28.60. Miao had the fastest split time of 51.02. With a time of 3:49.37, the women’s team, composed of Beaudet, Tayler Luna, junior, Wise, and Gong, also swam their way to victory.

Other major point earners for the team included siblings Anna Scott, a freshman in the women’s 100 freestyle, and Jordan Scott, a junior in the men’s 100 backstroke.

The swimmers endure long hours of practice everyday to keep their bodies in top shape when the season begins.

“To prepare for meets I practice everyday. I do the sets that my coach assigns. I’m most excited for the 200 free relay because that’s where I can always do my best and my friends are around me,” Caitlin Lazaro, junior, said.

The Cougar’s next swim meet is against Foothill High School on Saturday, April 9 at 1:30 p.m. at the Henderson Multigenerational pool.
