The Cougars had a clean sweep Tuesday, April 19 at the track and field team’s last home meet. The boys scored 108 over Canyon Springs’ 46 and Eldorado’s 23 points. The women took home 128 points over the Sun Devils 30 and Pioneers 21.

The Cougs took first in the 100 meter relay by .6 seconds with runners Samantha Bailey, junior, Shelby Burdo, junior, Alexandra Hondo, senior, and Ava Nicholson, freshman. Nicholson also took first in both the 100 and 200 meter sprints. The sprinters took first in the 200 and 400 meter relay race.

Dillon Stewart, freshman, placed first in the 100 and 200 meter sprints. Stewart also participated in the winning 200 meter relay team with sophomore teammates Seshin Tobin, Teddy Andrews, and Joshua Lathers.

“I never expected to be at the top because I am only a freshman, but it shows how hard work pays off in the end,” Stewart said.

Coronado’s distance team took the top spots in the women’s 1600 and 3200 meter race. The boys distance team also excelled in their events.

“A lot of us girls did extremely well and even crushed our own personal records,” varsity runner Bailey Wardle, sophomore, said.

The boys took first place in shot put, discus, high jump, and pole vault while the girls took first in high jump, pole vault, and triple jump. Ksana Montoya, sophomore, took third in shot put followed by Shannon Heenan, junior, and Sydney Edwards, sophomore.

The junior varsity teams’ season ended Friday, but varsity members will continue on until state in May.
