Celebrate good times for the last time. Senior spirit week is just around the corner starting May 23. Senior week celebrates its eighth anniversary with the class of 2016, and the events represent the seniors’ last hurrah.

“This is our last week to really enjoy high school and get the most out of it. Senior week helps to tie in all those exciting moments in our high school career,” Emily Cottrell, senior, said.

Monday’s theme is “I got the Senioritis,” and seniors can escape their senior life for a day. They can dress like beach bums, elderly people, or in comfortable pajamas. Also the Senior Carnival begins at 6 p.m. and ends at 10 p.m. on the football field.

“This week allows seniors to make memories that they will remember forever,” Darlyn Magaña, sophomore, said.

Tuesday is the day seniors clip on their ties and wiggle into their pencil skirts to imitate their favorite teachers. Throughout the day, seniors will be taking their fifth and sixth period finals. Senior Awards Night commences at 6 p.m. and ends at 8 p.m. The night is an opportunity to recognize seniors for their efforts, announce the colleges they are attending, and scholarships they have received.

CHS Spirit Day is Wednesday where seniors get to dress in their Coronado gear one last time. Graduation Practice is at 8 a.m. followed by the Grad Walk at 11 a.m. To finish off the day, the Senior Assembly and pizza party are at 11:30 a.m.

“This week is so important because it’s the seniors’ last chance to participate in a school event. I will definitely be participating, and I think all other seniors should, too,” Cottrell said.

Wrapping up the week on Thursday, seniors can strut their stuff in any college shirt. The following Tuesday, May 31, seniors will be taking their third and fourth period finals marking the end of their high school careers.

“Education is obviously the most important thing about school, but it is also a time to enjoy life, and Senior Spirit Week helps us to remember that,” Cottrell said.
