The annual Welcome Back Week, organized by Student Council, included a variety of fun activities to bring students together and energize them about the coming year.
On Monday students took pictures with Cisco the Cougar during both lunches. To help the freshmen find their way, large signs with the hallway numbers were around the school along with Student Council members wearing “Ask me” shirts.
During Tuesday’s lunch, StuCo hosted Coronado Trivia and handed out Coronado gear for correct answers. Peers wore red to show school pride.
Wednesday’s activities involved students wearing white and spinning the Spirit Wheel to get free Coronado t-shirts.
“I like spirit week because they make the school colorful, and it shows our school pride,” Anthony Phillippe, senior, said.
On Thursday, students wore blue and posed in front of a Cougar Nation backdrop for school spirit photos.
To start Friday off, all seniors were encouraged by Student Council to attend the Senior Sunrise where they received wristbands, crowns, and Kneaders’ French toast. They also took the first class photo of the year. All students were encouraged to wear their Cougar Nation gear. StuCo gave out cougar dogs at lunch.
The Welcome Back assembly involved games such as the hula hoop relay and the student/teacher fitness challenge. The deans performed their dress code catwalk for the student body to show what attire is not tolerated. The JV and varsity Cougarettes and cheer teams both performed as well.
“The assembly was really fun, and it was a great experience as a freshman,” Hannah Sheermin, freshman, said.
Mr. Piccininni gave a short speech about how pumped up he was for this school year because the class of 2017 is the first graduating class that he has been with for four years.
To close out the assembly, Coronado’s original band from the Metal Alliance club, Incarnate, performed their new original song, “Jamie.”
“The assemblies are always fun. We have played three or four of them, and they’re always a really fun, high energy opportunity,” Avry Stock, senior and member of Incarnate, said. “Coronado is amazing to play at because it’s our home, and we’ve all been going there for a few years. The students and staff all love us and make us feel really great.”
