The Downtown Las Vegas Event Center is an 85,000 square foot outdoor, open-spaced venue next door to Fremont Street. They host concerts, events, and festivals. Their latest concert, Sublime with Rome on Friday, Oct. 14 rocked the block and brought out a large number of over 1,000 returning fans to the new venue.

The first opener was the local Reggae/Rock band One Pin Short. They are recently back after a short break from the music scene. They mostly used brace instruments, like a trombone, to showcase their unique sound. Their lead singer has a kind of Chris Daughtry rough yet soothing voice that is a strong focus of the band.

The other opening rock band, The Expendables, from Santa Cruz, CA, had a set that was very easy to enjoy on a windy Oct. night. It was obvious that they have plenty of experience performing; their overall sound was comfortable to listen to in the open setting.

Sublime with Rome, who released their latest album “Sirens” in 2015, recently ended their summer tour with the Dirty Heads-who just released their self-titled album this year. Sublime’s set included original songs like, “Wrong Way” and “40 oz. to Freedom,” which always excite fans.

Their encore songs included the title song off their new album, “Sirens.” The absolute highlight of the night was when they had a friend guitarist come out on stage with his dog, Stevie, who did not have a fun time being in the spotlight. This was followed by the whole crowd helping to sing fan favorite, “What I Got.” The last song of the night was “Santeria,” their most popular song.

Overall the atmosphere and experience at the Downtown Las Vegas Event Center was tremendous. Charli XCX performed this past weekend, and she is sure to explode on the stage just like One Pin Short, The Expendables, and Sublime with Rome did.
