Future Medical Professionals club and the United Blood Services held their monthly blood drive in the auxiliary gym on Friday, Dec. 2 from 7:00 a.m. to 12:15 p.m.

“We do a monthly blood drive to give students as many opportunities to help the community as possible. It’s important to donate, as there is currently a shortage of blood,” senior Isabelle Bizzarro, club president, said.

In order to donate blood, participants were required to be 17 years of age or older, and needed to meet the weight requirements based on their height. They also filled out a consent form, given out at lunch to students interested in donating, through the club and United Blood Services.

“I donated just because I know there’s people out there who need it and it makes me feel good to know I could be saving someone’s life. Also, I have O- blood so that means I can give to anybody,” Destiny Farley, senior, said.

Overall, 60 students participated in this month’s blood drive, contributing 960 fluid ounces for the United Blood Services to distribute as needed.

“I wanted to help out with the blood drive because it’s for a good cause. We asked people to participate because the blood will be given to people who need it,” Jing Yin, senior, said. “We’re grateful for anyone willing to donate their blood.”

The blood collected will go towards helping people in need and to aid labs in developing a cure to the Zika virus.
