Students kickstart athletic careers

Cougar athletes signed with colleges around the nation last semester. On Thursday, Feb. 16, 14 seniors celebrated their futures with their coaches, friends, and family.

Golf

Golfer Ashley Lung signed to play at New York University this fall.

“I am very excited to be studying at Stern, one of the top business schools I am also looking forward to new competition and playing on golf courses along the east coast,” Lung said.

Soccer

Madison Thomsen signed with Campbell University in North Carolina.

California Baptist University recruited Preston Judd.

Kayla Eason committed to Vanderbilt University in Tennessee this fall.

Cassandra Kohler signed with Southern Oregon University.

“I am looking forward to playing soccer at an elevated level and making lasting friendships in college. I’ve overcome many obstacles to get to where I am now this includes multiple injuries and the struggle of maintaining straight A’s while playing on two traveling soccer teams,” Kohler said.   

Headed to Denver, Samantha Bailey signed at Metropolitan State University.

Goalkeeper Harrison Skinner is headed to San Diego State University.

Lindsey Whitmore signed with University of Missouri.

Brooke Townsend will be heading north to the University of Idaho.

“I chose U of I because I really love the environment there. Everyone always looks out for each other and makes you feel like you’re apart of their family,” Townsend said.

Football

University of Jamestown picked up La’Avionce Richard.

Cole Grimanauskas is headed to University of Puget Sound.

Tyler Chorens will stay close to home as he goes to Southern Utah University.

Justin Balanga will play at California Lutheran University.

Chapman University in California recruited Hunter Goeken.

“I’m excited to be able to just play [football] with guys that share the same hobbies and goals as me. I’m also looking forward to having a few more years of playing football,” Goeken said.
