The 2017 homecoming football game is on Thursday, Oct. 26, with a week filled with spirit days, lunchtime activities, and an assembly to get students involved. Students voted on a theme during lunch and chose “Destination Coronado.”

“I think ‘Destination Coronado’ makes spirit week special because it reminds us that no matter how far we travel, we will always find a home at Coronado. I hope that the student body really identifies with the theme this year and goes all out with school spirit,” Tehani Travis, junior, said.

Spirit week begins on Friday, Oct. 21 when StuCo kicks off the week with a “Bring it home” day where students show their school spirit with Cougar gear. They can wear tees, sweatshirts, varsity jackets, or any other gear to show enthusiasm for the upcoming homecoming week. Note to seniors: this is also the day of the senior panoramic photos so be sure to be here.

Kicking off the official week of homecoming is “Mountain Monday” where students are encouraged to wear flannels or dress like a lumberjack. Stuco hopes to get more students involved by including choices for spirit week that they can already find in their closets.

Students can dress in clothing from any past decade or even from the future for “Time Travel Tuesday.” They also have the option to wear neon to embrace futuristic fashion.

For “Wacky Tourist Wednesday,” Cougs can dress like wacky tourists with sunglasses, hats, Hawaiian shirts and even cameras. Another option is to wear floral clothing in the spirit of Hawaiian shirts.

“I love spirit week because it brings everyone together and gives all students an opportunity to show school spirit. I’m looking forward to ‘Wacky Tourist Wednesday’ the most because I’m excited to dress up and see everyone in silly oversized clothes and sunglasses,” Grace Speros, junior, said.

Thursday’s spirit day travels outside our solar system with “A Galaxy Far Far Away,” where students are encouraged to wear white. The annual homecoming assembly also takes place on Oct. 26, at 1:15 p.m, during which assembly emcees will announce underclassmen and junior homecoming royalty.

The same day also marks the homecoming game against Silverado. Before the matchup, there will be a tailgate with food trucks, games, and raffles. At halftime, homecoming royalty and clubs will ride on floats during the annual homecoming parade and StuCo will reveal the senior homecoming king and queen.

Following the game, the homecoming bash begins in the gym and ends at 11:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 at the door, but StuCo and Homecoming Court will sell them throughout the week during lunch for $10.

“We’ve been working on homecoming since September, and we’ve put countless hours into trying to make this the best homecoming for everyone so that all students can get involved. We really hope that our student body enjoys this week that we’ve worked so hard to put together, ” Bailey Goto, senior, said.
