Being a community of aspiring performers, Coronado’s Performing Arts department relies on the energy, determination, and dedication of its students. One of these rising stars is Lily Guo, who has proven to be an integral part of the community.

Lily has attended Coronado all four years of her highschool career, but came into her freshman year starting a brand new slate. Coming into a completely new school zone, she was starting all on her own. Having to leave behind an old circle of friends is no easy task for anyone, but Lily’s positive, loveable personality allowed her to click with people instantly.

“In the beginning, I felt lonely, but I had the chance to make a lot of friends, and they’ve helped me grow so much,” said Lily Guo.

Lily, the superstar herself, has offered her services all over the performing arts department. She has been a member of Choir since Freshman year. This year, she is a Co-Historian and Soprano Section Leader.

“It’s amazing to see her grow,” said Mr. Fleischer. “She’s become such an outstanding young woman and performer.

On top of that, she took on the challenging role of dance captain in Coronado Theatre’s performance of Mamma Mia. Working alongside her fellow student leaders, Lily played a pivotal role in organizing and cleaning heavy dance numbers and bringing the show to success.

“I’ve had many chances to be involved in leadership roles which have helped me become a better leader, person, and friend,” Guo said. “I thank Mr. Fleischer and Mr. Torres for being so supportive and helpful to me. The students, too, are so welcoming. It feels like a big family.”

Lily is also a Theatre IV, where she is tasked with teaching and choreographing student pieces, blocking student-performed scenes, and most of all, inspiring others to reach for their dreams in the theatre.

“Lily is a very passionate leader,” senior and fellow Theatre IV Zoe McCracken said. “She works really well with everyone because of her positive attitude. She always knows when and how to take charge if needed.”

Her ambitions don’t stop after Coronado. Lily is currently in the process of deciding on her college destination and is eagerly awaiting responses from a few others. Regardless, she hopes to pursue musical theatre and education/teaching as a major. She greatly looks forward to her future in the performing arts.

“It really feels like home,” Guo said. “I’m going to miss my life at Coronado after I graduate. The people here have helped me become the person I always wished to be.

Coronado’s Performing Arts department hates to see Lily leave, but its members can agree her hard work, tenacity, and bright personality will be cherished, and she’s going to do amazing things.
