On Tuesday, March 21, Coronado’s baseball team faced off against Spring Valley high school in a home game. The Couagrs won easily, with a score of 15-5, and were so far ahead that the game ended in the 5th inning, implementing the mercy rule.

“I think as a team we played really well, and obviously we scored 15 runs so our bats were really good that day,” junior Evan Festa said. “It was a pretty solid day for me as well, but overall as a team, we had a great game.”

Right from the start, the team brought their all, scoring 5 runs in the first inning and not allowing Spring Valley to score their first run until the third inning. Each inning after that, excluding the fourth where neither scored any runs, Coronado’s team scored more runs than Spring Valley’s team.

“I think pitching-wise we do need to be more consistent because the majority of the times when we win we do have to score a lot of runs,” Festa said. “If we could work on our pitching we could have a really successful season this year.”

This weekend, the team heads to St. George, Utah, to compete in a four-game tournament— a yearly tradition. Coronado’s baseball team will continue on in their league season Tuesday, March 28 back at home at 3:30; be sure to support your fellow cougars!
