The Cougars first playoff game ended with Coronado winning 20-7, led by the Coach of the Year, Brad Talich.

Kainoa Granstrom, senior, scored a touchdown after a recovery, and the Cougars got the first seven points of the game with the PAT.

Tanner Gorski, senior, ran in another touchdown for the Cougars. After missing the PAT, the score was 13-0 at the end of the quarter.

Starting off second quarter, the Skyhawks ran the ball in for a touchdown, making the score 13-7.

Nick Trejo, senior, ran in a touchdown, making the score 20-7 at the end of the first half.

“There is always room to get better. I don’t want to be good, I want to be great. I want to go and play for college and move on and play in the NFL. You can never be too good. There’s always room to improve,” Trejo said.

During the third quarter, Wade Jacobs, senior, caught an interception.

With no points scored in the third quarter, the Cougars were still in the lead 20-7.

During fourth quarter, Kieren Henness, senior, injured his foot, causing him to sit out on the sidelines for the rest of the game.

The game ended with a score of 20-7 after no more points were scored during the rest of the game.

“I thought the score was going to be higher, but we ran the ball and that’s what the coach wanted, so it was a good game,” Trejo said.

Playing Liberty next week, the Cougars have positive thoughts for the rest of the playoff games.

“[We will] show Liberty we are the better team. We’ve improved to be at our peak in the playoffs, and they’ll be in for competition in our house,” Nigel Purnell, junior, said.
