Ranked as first in the state, the varsity girls’ soccer team secured another win Wednesday, Oct. 15 against the Foothill Falcons. The final score was 5-3.

Coronado scored two goals in the first half. The first goal scored by Ashley Thomas, senior, put them ahead.

“I just try to do my best each and every game and take it one game at a time, and it will hopefully be enough for State so we can win it this year,” Thomas said. “That is definitely mine, and, I’m sure, my team’s goal.”

With 16 minutes left in the first half, senior Michaela Morris kicked the ball in for a 2-0 lead over the Falcons. The Falcons charged goalie, Rachel Morris, sophomore, but she blocked their goal attempt.

With the first half drawing to a close, the Falcons scored one goal, but Coronado still came out ahead 2-1.

At the beginning of the second half, the Falcons scored, tying the game at 2-2. The tie was broken with a penalty shot by Morris. Thomas also scored again, creating a two-point gap in the score with 4-2 lead.

“Our coach is really good at giving us good drills to practice for our games,” Thomas said.

Olivia Meza shot a goal not long before the Falcons scored their last point, closing out the game with a Cougar win at 5-3.
