Cougars,

First and foremost… we miss you guys!  The summer months are always strange, especially when the regular faces are not around to say hello.  I can tell you that we are all looking forward to the normalcy of kids and faculty walking through the office and around school, smiling and enjoying friendships, making Coronado the incredible place that it is.

The education business, and school in general, is one of the very few professions that can honestly live by the saying, “everything old is new again.”  The start of every school year, although somewhat routine (and at times like the Bill Murray movie Groundhog Day), is new every year.  New students and friends, and new teachers and classes, keep that routine fresh every year.  This year will be no different.  Hopefully during the summer break you have all had the opportunity to spend time with family and friends, travel to your favorite places, and enjoy those things that are most important to you.  Whether it was the beach, the wilderness, or city life, I hope you found those things that bring you smiles and happiness.  When the 2014-2015 school year starts, I know we will all be ready to go full speed.

In between rest and vacation, the Coronado High School office staff, custodians, coaches, and advisers have been working diligently to prepare for the opening of school, the upcoming school year, and their respective programs, teams and clubs.  While the summer is supposed to be time off, the CHS faculty never fully rests.  We are all so very fortunate to work with this incredible group of professionals; their leadership will continue to serve our kids at the highest levels.

So as we embark on another year together, I would challenge everyone to remember the things that have come to define Coronado High School, over time, as one of the premier high schools in our state.  The academic accomplishments, co-curricular successes, and athletic championships are a byproduct of hard work, dedication, and perseverance.  There were no handouts, no gifts, only examples of expectation realized by driven students, parents, and leaders; truly living our motto, “Excellence by Design.”  It will be with steadfast determination that we hold these values true, proceeding forward with intent, through the 2014-2015 school year.

I want to share Margaret Mead’s thoughts, “Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed people can change the world.  Indeed it is the only thing that ever has.”  As we continue to work toward becoming the very best high school in the country, the quality and work of our faculty and kids will be the driving force towards this goal.  It will not be a program or a well-crafted plan; it will be the collective will and determination of our kids and faculty.  The level of commitment you all share and our collective focus in this regard will lead us through the best year yet.

Exceed Expectations.  Achieve Excellence.  Experience Coronado.

Cougars… together.
