Mens’ varsity basketball was given a number of awards as the season came to a close. The Cougars received a total of five All-League Awards.

Andrew Palma, senior, had honorable mention and Travis Boman, junior, was named All-League second team. All-League first team went to Nick Kornieck, senior, and Jake Desjardins, junior.

“First team means that they picked five players from the division who they thought performed best throughout the league. I feel very honored and happy,” Desjardins said.

During the last game of the regular season, Kornieck finished with a career high of 42 points grabbing seven rebounds. He was also named Sunrise Southeast Most Valuable Player.

“When I found out I own Sunrise Southeast MVP, I was excited because the guy I was going against had a good year, and it was unexpected,” Korneick said.

Coronado defeated Rancho, on Wednesday, Feb. 18, and finished in the league undefeated, a 10-0 record. The team also took Sunrise Southeast Division championship and was ranked number five in the state, with an overall record of 16-4.

Coach Jeff Kaufman was honored as Coach of the Year and was proud to coach mens’ varsity basketball this season.

“This year’s team [was] all about each other; they [played] together, they [hung] out together, they [were] the epitome of what a team should be,” Kaufman said.
