Beginning on day one of freshman year, many students look toward senior year and all the traditions that go along with it.

Many of the senior traditions occur during the first few weeks of school.

“I’m excited for all the senior traditions that I got to see seniors do before me,” Sofia Sanchez, senior, said. “They’re so cool.”

Student Council will host the annual Senior Sunrise on Friday, Aug. 28 starting at 6 a.m. Seniors will gather on the football field to watch the sun come up over the Las Vegas Strip, while enjoying free pancakes and decorating their senior crowns. Students can take their first 2016 senior picture as a class that morning at 7 a.m.

“My favorite part of Senior Sunrise is being able to watch the most beautiful part of the day surrounded by my best friends and graduating class. It’s a time to reminisce and bond with the people you’ve grown with,” Olivia Hankins, senior class representative, said.

Seniors are invited to buy their t-shirts in the quad at both lunches and at Senior Sunrise for $10. They are encouraged to wear the senior t-shirts, which read “Our Re16n Begins,” to Senior Sunrise and the first football game of the season.

Coronado will host the first game of the season against Palo Verde on Friday, Aug. 28 starting at 7 p.m. The game is a “bleed out” and all students are advised to support the team by wearing red.

A new tradition, starting with last year’s senior class, allows students to purchase raffle tickets for spots in the front parking lot, the funds support the senior class. Students choose their parking spots and paint them, adding their own designs to the concrete parking curbs.

Parking spots are sold to this year’s seniors in the quad at both lunches for $30. The senior class will host the raffle, barbeque, and painting party on Monday, Aug. 31 starting at 6 p.m.

“I bought the parking spot so I could be close to the school but mainly because I liked the idea of getting to paint my spot and hang out with friends,” Mackenzie Kent, senior, said.

Seniors are asked to order their senior jerseys before September 30 if they want to get them by homecoming. They can buy and personalize them online for $55 on Inksoft.com.

“These events may be some of my first as a senior, but they are one of my last as a high school student,” Kent said.
