I gave myself the position of being the official school investigator, and I take my job very seriously. Not a lot of people know about my job because technically I made it up, but that doesn’t stop me from being the best investigator this school has ever seen.

Last Friday, after a fabulous spirit week with the theme Battle of the Sexes, Student Council gave away free hot dogs to anyone who wanted one, just as they do after every spirit week. Students were taking hot dogs left and right, and StuCo members were grilling those franks like they’ve been doing it for decades.

This got me thinking, what exactly goes into the process of giving away free hot dogs? Getting food for free is a very rare and happy occasion, so I decided to do some digging.

I got in contact with a few StuCo members and did some hardcore investigating. I’m going to let you in on this investigation. I will give you all the details but only on one condition, next time StuCo gives away free hot dogs, be thankful.

After the members of Student Council make sure they have enough funds for all the supplies, one or two members go to the store and buy everything needed for the cookout during lunch.

The tailgate committee prepares the hot dogs and gets the grills ready for action. After that’s complete, it’s a total group effort for all members of StuCo. They cook the dogs, have buns and condiments, like as ketchup and mustard, ready to go.

While some hand out free hot dogs, other members of StuCo control the crowd and give students water bottles. All in all, a lot of work goes into giving away free hot dogs.

Now after receiving all of this information, I still had the question of “why?” Why does StuCo give away free hot dogs?

According to Zil Joyce Dixon Romero, sophomore, and Student Council member, “We pass out free hot dogs to raise school spirit and make sure that everyone is happy and enjoying the spirit week. Also to give promotion for the assembly.”

There you have it, Cougs, Student Council gives away those yummy free hot dogs out of kindness and to create awareness for the after school assemblies.

Until next time, Coronado’s personal investigator is signing off.
