15 talented groups will perform at Culture Shock in the Coronado Theater on March 20 from 6-8 p.m. Culture Shock is an event presented by Leo Club with efforts to bring different cultures together and showcase talents.
“The whole point of it is to basically celebrate cultural diversity,” senior Sarah Rickards, secretary of Leo Club, said. “This highlights the different groups on campus that normally don’t get recognition or featured.”
At the event, 15 different groups from Coronado and around the Henderson area will showcase a variety of acts, ranging from dances performed by Key Club to musical talents shown off by Ukulele and Guitar Club. Leo Club has been preparing and organizing Culture Shock for about a month.
“We’ve been writing scripts, selling tickets, creating tickets, so it’s a process,” Rickards said.
Many clubs are doing culturally important dances. Korean Club will be dancing to covers of K-pop songs, while Ukulele Club has worked for a month to learn the song “Hawaiian Roller Coaster Ride” from the popular children’s movie “Lilo & Stitch.”
“It’s interesting because ukulele isn’t set to one culture, but it’s still really fun to participate in something,” freshman Alysa Beverley, secretary of Ukulele Club, said. “We’re all very nice to each other, and it’s like a loving family.”
Tickets for Culture Shock are available at lunch or at the door for $5.
