It isn’t the Super Bowl unless there is a memorable halftime show, and Katy Perry was certainly memorable on Sunday, Feb. 1.

The performance began with Perry standing on a giant lion puppet wearing a specially designed dress with 3D flames coming off her shoulders. She sang her hit single “ROAR” off of her PRISM album which came out in 2013. The lion walked across the field as she sang, and ended the song with a giant roar.

Perry then sang “Dark Horse” while atop an extra large computerized chess board while her backup dancers were dressed as chess pieces. The visual effects for the song were absolutely stunning. Perry and her dancers stood on a platform in the middle of the board and around them the stage started to fall apart into a “perfect storm,” as her song states, with impressive 3D effects.

Lenny Kravitz sang Perry’s first hit “I Kissed a Girl” with her. They did a splendid duet on a stage at the end of the field. A quick costume change and Perry was ready for “Teenage Dream.”

In this segment of the halftime show, the stage became a beach complete with dancing sharks, palm trees and girls in bikinis. Perry, in a beach ball dress, got the crowd going with   “Teenage Dream” and “California Gurls.”

A surprise guest, Missy Elliot, came out on a green and black stage. Another quick costume change and Perry was alongside Elliot in an oversized hoodie with the number 49 on the front, and, in case we forgot who she was, her name printed on the back. Perry rocked a few dance moves to Elliot’s hits and then disappeared for another costume change.

Ending her performance with “Firework,” Perry wore a  floor-length diamond-studded dress. The camera started with a close up on Perry, showing her sparkled wing eye makeup. When she started singing the song, Perry looked a little bit emotional. Of course, who wouldn’t be if they were living their dream? She sang beautifully, nonetheless, flying around the stadium on a giant shooting star while fireworks exploded throughout the stadium.

With Super Bowl XLIX making history as the most watched game with 114.4 million viewers, Perry’s energized performance along with the interception of the season will be a trending subject for weeks to come.
