Incoming freshmen and other new students roamed the courtyard with their families on August 20 during the annual welcome barbecue. Student Council invited seniors to claim their parking spots and purchase jerseys for the upcoming year, and the deans’ office assigned lockers to freshmen.

Greeted by Student Council members and a freshly painted school, students watched performances by the dance team, marching band, and more. Students learned more about club offerings from students stationed at tables surrounding the courtyard, all while listening to the latest songs.

“I loved getting to see everyone work as a team and so ready to help out,” Student Council member Sarah Baron, senior, said.

Student Council sold baked goods, tee-shirts, and popsicles to guests along-side the free hot dogs and water. They started work for the barbecue two weeks in advance, even putting in some 12-hour work days.

“I love seeing all of the Cougar spirit. It is always a great way to kick off the year, and it’s a fun way to support the school,” Allison Orlinick, senior, said.

With robots and three-dimensional miniature buildings, students saw just a few of the accomplishments clubs have to offer.

“My favorite part was getting to see all of the friends I did not get to see over summer,” Aaron Cagle, freshman, said. “The food was just a delicious bonus.”

This fifteenth annual welcome barbecue gave students a chance to explore the campus, meet new people and determine how they want to get involved for the upcoming school year.
