Every five years a high school must go through an accreditation process. This is enforced by the school district and state. With that time rolling around again for Coronado, 650 parents are needed to complete a brief, five-minute survey.

There are 42 questions with a response scale of one to five, from strongly agree to strongly disagree or not applicable. The survey covers the topics of the school’s purpose and direction, government and leadership, teaching and assessing for learning, resources and support systems, and using results for continuous improvement. There is an open response section at the end of the questionnaire.

“What they want to know is what [we are] doing to involve our parents, our students, and our teachers. Are we–as Mr. Piccinini says–really doing the things we say we’re doing,” Mr. Manning, special education teacher and director in the accreditation process, said.

Parents were first asked to start taking the survey at the open house on Wednesday, Sept. 30, and as of Monday Oct. 19, 131 parents have taken the survey. Administrators are hoping to have the parent input portion of the accreditation process finished by Oct. 29, but the poles will not be closed until at least 650 parents have completed the survey.
