The musical departments will host their annual fall concerts this month. Band, orchestra, guitar, and choir have been rigorously working in preparation for their upcoming concerts.

Orchestra will be performing its fall concert on Oct. 26, guitar’s showcase will be on Oct. 25, and band’s fall concert is on Oct. 27. Guitar and bands’ concerts start at 6:30 p.m. and orchestra’s begins at 6 p.m. All performances are in the theatre.

This year, orchestra is promoting the Halloween spirit in their fall concert. They’re decking out the theater in Halloween decorations and featuring music from famous ‘spooky’ movies like “Psycho” and Harry Potter along with seasonal classics.

“I’m extremely excited to play “Ghost of Brandenburg.” It’s the spookier version of Bach, perfect for the Halloween season,” Jenny Byington, senior orchestra cellist, said.

The classes are rehearsing the songs they plan on showcasing repeatedly in class and at home, drilling the songs and technique into their memory. Orchestra students have designated early bird “sectionals” every week leading up to the concert along with their regular classes. Advanced level performing arts students can also take two music classes. Choir students can be in Madrigals, the highest choir class and an early bird class, and Concert Choir. Bands two classes include symphonic and jazz.

“I’ve been practicing for two hours every night, making sure I can play on the beat. I’m so excited to be able to get on stage and play the music we’ve all worked so hard to learn for all our friends and families,” Spencer Gaff, freshman guitarist, said.

Also guitar has two levels performing, intermediate and advanced, and they break into small groups called “sectionals” every Friday. Both band and guitar are planning on performing eeri pieces like “Rose Buds in June” for guitar and “Inferno in Wind” for band.

“To prepare we had tons of rehearsals, and we’re learning how to sing correctly,” Mr. Fleischer, choir teacher, said.

Choir’s concert was this past Monday at 6 p.m. They featured songs of the season like “Grim Grinning Ghosts” and larger choral works. Choir also performed one of their more difficult songs of the concert, “Father William” that is based off of the “Alice and Wonderland” fairy tale.

“I hope everyone enjoys the concerts because we’ve been working incredibly hard, and the music is really cool,” Sammy Thomas, junior trombone, flutist, and piccoloist, said.
