The Fellowship of Christian United Students Club gathered Friday, Nov. 6 to put together boxes to send to Operation Christmas Child. O.C.C. is a year-round Christian-oriented organization that sends missionaries to developing countries.
Boxes are sent with the missionaries to give to children on the day they arrive. Throughout the missionaries’ stay, children learn about Christianity and Jesus.
“I think it’s a great cause because there are so many people around the world that are in times of need,” Madi Thomsen, junior, said. “If we have the necessary things to help them out, we should because what we can give them is greater than they could ever imagine.”
Cardboard boxes are filled with hygiene products, toys, hard candy, puzzles, coloring books, and clothes. Some of the children have never received a Christmas present or any of the items in the boxes.
“Our club wants to be active in the community and beyond,” Vice President Olivia Smith, junior, said. “It was important that we could serve here and in other countries.”
Members of FOCUS met in Mr. Sundvick’s classroom to collect five cardboard boxes. They proceeded to buy the items that would be used to fill the boxes from the Dollar Store. Later, they gathered at Co-President Sarah Litto’s, junior, home to pack the boxes. Afterwards the packages were given to Life Springs Christian Church to be sent with the rest of the boxes collected from church members.
