The Jewish Student Union hosted the first annual jean drive for homeless teens. They began collecting jeans Feb. 1 and continued up through Feb. 29. All proceeds helped teens in need of new jeans.

Jeans for Teens is one of the largest global organizations for the youth. With over five million members in 130 countries, Jeans for Teens tackle volunteer campaigns that impact every cause including poverty, discrimination, and the environment.

“The jeans for teens drive is a really great organization that will help homeless teens out which is a really great feeling,” Sam Scow, sophomore, said.

The organization collected jeans for homeless youth because they are durable and protect the teens from harsh weather. The teens are also able to go more days without washing jeans while still appearing clean which can help them get jobs and save them any money that they might spend at laundromats.

“Jeans are the most needed item less fortunate teens want, and they can also be very expensive, so I hope the Jeans for Teens organization will help them out,” Ms. Jorgensen, adviser, said.

Donations were placed in the designated boxes in room 209. JSU collected 103 pairs of jeans during the drive.
