The senior boy band shut down the competition with their lights-out, glow-in-the-dark performance on Friday, March 11 during the spring assembly. They took home the win, closely followed by the freshman boy band.

Quickly gaining momentum on social media platforms using the name “Glowtrotters,” seniors Nathan Gerrard, Rami Khalaf, Mason Molina, Chase Owens, Michael Schwob, Lono Travis, Logan West, and Walker Wright delivered a performance full of pop-culture references. When the gym went dark, eight lightsaber-wielding figures emerged in glowstick-patterned suits and fought an intense blue versus red battle to “The Imperial March.”

The lights came back on, and the band cartwheeled and somersaulted around the gym, keeping up the momentum. For their finale, the varsity cheer and dance teams along with pre selected members of the senior class ran on to the gym floor, creating a flash mob behind the boys to the song “We’re All in This Together.”

“One month of hard [work] for three minutes of fame. Totally worth it. I love doing boy band,” Travis said.

The sophomores and juniors also had definite crowd-pleasing performances.

The juniors made sure to involve the crowd by having everyone clap a beat during the song. They focused on their dance moves and put together a playlist full of hits from “back in the day.” Their song choices included “The Boys are Back,” “California Gurls,” and a “Tennis Court” remix.

The sophomores had frequent costume changes, starting out in purple masks and black sweats, throwing that off to reveal tutus and Coronado gear, and ending in tie-dye shirts and shorts.

The freshman boy band got the crowd cheering with their more satirical approach and prop incorporation. Their first song was, “Let’s Get It Started,” then they danced with girls in boas. They brought out teddy bears and dolls to swing to the song “Baby,” and wore birthday hats while they danced to “It’s My Birthday.” For their grand finale, they tumbled, back flipped, and threw candy to the audience.

“We gave it all we got. It was really fun. We’ll win it next year,” Dillon Stewart, freshman, said.
