With spring break approaching, getting that bikini-ready body becomes an essential. With these tips, staying fit and healthy just became a whole lot easier.

A motivated mindset goes a long way; creating a goal is crucial for rapid results. Start out with small goals, and go from there. The little things that you can do each day will add to being healthy and fit.

Getting enough sleep is necessary to stay fit and healthy, but many of us do not get enough. Lack of sleep affects our physical and mental health tremendously as well as our metabolism, memory, stress hormones, and increases the risk for  cardiovascular disease. Sleeping allows the body to heal, repair, and rejuvenate.

“I try to get at least eight hours of sleep a day, so I can go the whole day without getting sleepy,” Emmanuel Gutierrez, sophomore, said.

Exercise is a crucial part of staying healthy. Walking everyday is encouraged to stay fit. Cardiovascular exercise helps to strengthen the heart and lungs. Weight-training helps to strengthen the muscles and stretching helps to reduce the risk of injury by increasing flexibility.

“I enjoy playing football and running to stay fit. I also do weights as a way to strengthen my muscles,” Reese Kimball, freshman, said.

Eating healthy foods such as fresh fruits, vegetables, and whole grains help to stay healthy and fit. Include lean sources of protein such as fish, tofu, and beans into your diet.

Try to eat breakfast everyday. A healthy breakfast keeps the energy up and fuelled for physical performance. It also helps to maintain stable blood-sugar levels and a healthy weight. Those who eat a nutritious breakfast are less likely to overeat later in the day.

“Every morning I try to eat a balanced breakfast including fruit to gain some energy for the day,” Harrison Skinner, junior, said.

Drinking plenty of water helps keep the body hydrated. It is the natural cleanser for our organs and digestive system. It will help to increase energy and relieve fatigue. It also removes by-products of fat, reduces hunger, and raises metabolism.

Incorporating these methods into your everyday life can help improve health and fitness for a long term effect.
