In honor of Autism Awareness Month, Coronado will be hosting an “Aces for Autism” men’s volleyball game on Tuesday, April 12, where they will take on our rivals from Green Valley at 6 p.m.

“Being a volleyball player myself, I’m really proud that our volleyball program is hosting such an important event. I think it’s also impactful because it raises money for people who can not always play a sport competitively,” Celeen Vasquez, freshman, said.

Ms.Wilson, special education teacher, approached administration with the idea to host the fundraising volleyball game because she recognized the need to raise public awareness regarding autism.

“Since autism affects 1 in 68 individuals, it’s so important to inform others about it. Too many people are uneducated about autism and are quick to pass judgement to those that are on the autism spectrum. That is why ‘Aces for Autism’ is so important; it will raise awareness about a well-deserving cause,” Ms. Wilson said.

The volleyball game will benefit individuals on the autism spectrum. Donations will come from a silent auction, basket raffle, and game-time drawing during the event. All donations will go to Grant a Gift, Families for Effective Autism Treatment (FEAT), and the Autism Speaks Foundation. In addition to donations, Ms. Wilson and her students are selling puzzle pieces for $1 and t-shirts for $10, during lunches and before school in room 220.

“I’m glad that I can support such a great cause just by simply buying a t-shirt, and I’m really proud of what our school is doing to support those on the autism spectrum,” Katelyn Virgen, freshman, said.
