With the familiar scent of cougar dogs, students gathered in the quad Thursday evening for the annual freshman barbecue. Student Council gave tours of the school, and students found their homerooms for the first day.

The freshmen got a preview of Coronado with performances by band, cheer, and dance. The marching band performed a cougar classic, the fight song, while the dance and cheer team shone in their new uniforms.

“I was really impressed with the performances. Everybody did amazing, and it was really well put together,” Lauren Gervase, freshman, said.

StuCo placed tables around the quad, so peers could sign up for different clubs and activities including robotics, yearbook, and key club. Different sports teams were also there to meet, greet, and answer questions.

“The BBQ promotes an all inclusive environment for all interests and passions of the Coronado community,” Nolan Phan, junior class treasurer, said.

Administration distributed locker assignments, and students tested them out. Lockers were in such demand that parents and students waited in a line that began in the cafeteria and ended in the parking lot.

“I’m excited for the school year. It’s gonna be a great year!” Ashley Taibi, freshman, said.
