For those looking for a spooky show sure to give them shivers, come by the theatre at 6 p.m. for this year’s fall play, “Poe’s Midnight Dreary,” which opens Oct. 19 and will run until the 21.

“This is my first ever production, and it has been one of my favorite experiences. Because it’s Edgar Allen Poe, it has a lot of dark content, but that’s what I love about it. I think people may be a bit shocked with it. It’s kind of just eerie and sad all together,” Rafael Canizalez, sophomore, said.

The play follows Edgar Allen Poe’s famous works: “The Telltale Heart”, “The Black Cat”, “The Raven”, “Annabel Lee”, “The Fall of the House of Usher”, “The Premature Burial”, and “The Poetic Principle”. In addition, it details events in Poe’s life, all threaded together in a dream like sequence. The eerie script is a perfect fit for the Halloween season.

“I think that this is such a unique and creepy show, and I am really proud of my actors. I have definitely learned a lot from every single person in this play,” assistant director Emily Unger, senior, said.

Initial auditions for the play were Sept. 7, and the cast has practiced for over a month. The first read-through was on Sept. 13. The actors rehearse every day directly after school until 5:00. Marshall Looney, junior, plays the title role of Poe. Claire Hawley, senior, is also an assistant directors.

“Practice makes perfect, and it’s no different with the play. Rehearsal allows us to try things out and become more comfortable with our characters. Not to mention all the funny things that happen. It has really gotten me closer to people whether it be laughing while rehearsing or going to do something after rehearsal,” Carlos Gonzalez, junior, said.
