Gridiron glory, eye black, and female empowerment. On the second day of the battle of the sexes spring spirit week, the annual powderpuff football game kicked off. With all the proceeds collected going to Shade Tree, a nonprofit shelter for abused women and children.
The junior captain was Colby Carlson and the senior captain was Sidney Iannucci, with the seniors getting the ball first.
With no kickers, touchdowns were six points, with the extra point only being able to be scored by running the ball or making a catch in the endzone, adding even more excitement to this cataclysmic class conflict. The game was also played with two 20 minute halves including a 10 minute halftime performance from senior and junior male volunteer cheerleaders.
The players were coached and officiated by: Hall Monitor Rob Vogel, Mr. Lewis, Mr. Sneade, and Mr. Forshee.
With strong efforts on both sides of the ball, Morgan Mavroudis stood out for the seniors on offense with Abbey Brown for the juniors; both players scored touchdowns for their classes. As for defense, senior Lauren Essey, snatched an interception off the junior QB creating a monumental senior momentum shift. Emyli Augustine led the strong junior defense with multiple tackles for a loss and pass breakups.
With a closely contested game throughout, the juniors scored one final time late in the second half resulting in a 21-18 win for the class of 2015.
