The men’s soccer team triumphed over the Silverado Skyhawks 6-0 during their home game on Tuesday, Sept. 20.
“Being a defender, it felt fantastic knowing that we shutout this game. I knew we were doing our job well by keeping a clean sheet throughout the entire game,” Captain Braydon Lopez, senior, said.
Shortly into the first half, Justin Irungaray, junior, made a goal after a corner kick. After another corner kick, Captain Preston Judd, senior, scored the second point of the first half. The Cougars worked together to keep the ball on Silverado’s side. John Lynam, junior, made the final goal of the first half putting the Cougs ahead 3-0.
“I feel that we played really well, and obviously it was great that we scored so many goals today. I feel that our defense was really solid, and I hope we continue to play this well,” Brock Rideout, sophomore, said.
The Cougars kept up their clean streak throughout the second half with strong defensive plays by Lopez and Harrison Skinner, senior. Judd scored the first two goals of the second half, with assists from Irungaray. Coronado managed to get one more goal when Alfredo Diaz, sophomore, put the ball in between the posts right before the end of the game, resulting in a final score of 6-0.
“I play left back defender, so I had the duty of stopping opponents from scoring. It feels pretty good to walk off the field knowing that Silverado wasn’t able to score any goals this game because of our performance,” Jake Baldauf, sophomore, said.
