Coronado may need to expand their trophy case to make room for this years state trophies. With two fall teams winning state, there may even be the need to add one.

The girl’s varsity volleyball team competed against Bishop Gorman for regionals. They lost the first two games but came together and beat Gorman by winning three straight games. They continued on to snatch victory from the hands of PaloVerde at state after losing two games and making a comeback by winning the next three games repeating their score of 3-2. The team’s win was met with the support and cheers of Cougar fans who attended the games.

“It’s insane that we won state. It was a very special moment, and I’m proud of my teammates,” Brooke Garlick, senior, said.

The men’s tennis team traveled to state for the second year in a row and returned successful yet again. Doubles partners Jack Vance and Jamie Vance took first place in mens doubles.

Men’s singles was led by Cassell King who came in second place. Ryland McDermott was close behind him with third place. Their accumulated points earned them the win.

Like the volleyball team, the women’s golf team won regionals and continued on to state. The team had to compete against Gorman, Green Valley, and Foothill to win second place in state. The leading scorer for Coronado was Natalie Yamamoto.

“We made it to state all four years I was on the team. It feels great to be Southern Nevada champions,” Ciara Clark, senior, said.

Both the men’s and women’s cross country teams won regionals and continued to state. The women’s team placed fifth overall with Sara Dort, senior, leading the team with a 19;13 time, attaining third place. At the same time the men’s team placed sixth in state with Colin Schaefer, sophomore, leading them.
