Imagine sitting outside of The Coffee Bean while enjoying a red velvet hot cocoa in the cold. While glancing at the other stores and people across the walkway, the view is interrupted by a rumbling car just a few feet away.
The District at Green Valley Ranch had been under construction since June and was completed in October. The District’s plan was to make a two way street down the middle of the walkway, as well as adding more parking spots and ten new stores and restaurants.
Luna Rossa Ristorante is a new Italian restaurant opening at The District. Charming Charlie, a fashion and accessory store is also a new edition to The District.
“I personally love the store Charming Charlie and now it’s way more convenient that they opened one at The District because it’s a lot closer to home than the one at Town Square,” Isabel Mendoza, sophomore, said.
Though many people may not like the new style of The District, Russell Bennett, junior, works at Ben and Jerry’s and feels positively about the renovation of The District.
“I think the road is a great addition to The District because of the new parking spots. They give more opportunities for customers to come in the store.”
Local residents have complained said that the road would cause safety hazards and take away from the park-like atmosphere.
“Although the road looks great, it does cause some issues. The road is dangerous for anyone walking around, and now it’s harder for people to bring their dogs and kids because they have to worry about moving traffic,” Taylor Houston, sophomore, said.
The road was finished in October and is now open for anyone to drive through. Even with cars driving down the center, The District still had their annual lighting of the Christmas tree and the arrival of Santa Claus on November 29.
Photo opportunities with Santa Claus will be held every Saturday and Sunday from November 30 through December 22 from 11-4pm on the whole foods side of The District.
