The women’s varsity soccer team won their home game against Green Valley 2-0 on Thursday, Oct. 8.

“I felt excited and confident that we were going to win. There is nothing I would have changed about it,” Taylor Kornieck, senior, said.

In the first half, Olivia Meza, junior, shot a corner kick after a foul on the Gators. Kornieck head butted the ball into the goal to put the Cougars in the lead.

Meza later attempted a series of corner kicks, but the attempts were blocked by the Gator’s defense. The Cougs ended the first half 1-0.

With only 25 minutes left, Kornieck dropped to the ground with a bloody nose. Although illegal contact was made, a foul was not called, but Kornieck was back in the game after a few minutes.

With nine minutes left in the second half, Katelyn Moxley, sophomore, kicked the ball across the field, to assist Kornieck in scoring.

“It was a big game for us because we are rivals, and they have done pretty well throughout the season. It was really hot, but it was cool to have fans come watch us,” Moxley said.

This win continues the women’s winning streak to four games. They currently lead the Sunrise-Southeast division, 4-1-0.
