The men’s and women’s bowling teams competed in the NIAA Individual Bowling Championship on Jan. 26-28. The qualifiers battled in finals at the Orleans Center on Feb. 8. The men’s team battled in the NIAA Team Bowling Championship and in the quarterfinals. Where they lost 7-2 against the Las Vegas Wildcats.

“I am so glad and honored that I got to be a part of the school’s bowling team. For next season, I am going to change how I throw and learn to follow through more,” Kiara Ackerman, junior, said.

At the men’s individual championship, Seth Murawsky, junior, managed a  578 series coming in at seventh place, but he did not make it to the finals.

Ackerman and Isabel Pittman, senior, competed in the women’s individual championship. Ackerman qualified and came in second place with a 615 series and a 171.917 average in Division I. Pittman scored a series average of 124.9 but did not make it to the finals. The following day, Ackerman continued onto the finals where she got a 481 series and came in sixth place out of the 13 qualifiers.

“I was really nervous for the competition, but I tried to stay as relaxed as possible by getting to know the other girls on my lane,” Pittman said.

In the 2016 NIAA Division I Bowling Championships the men’s bowling team started off in the quarterfinals against Las Vegas High School, but after losing a tough match, they did not move onto the semifinals.

Last year for the 2015 season, the men’s bowling team won the state championships and the women’s team made it to semifinals.

With the bowling season over, the bowlers will continue to practice and prepare for the next season ahead.

“With the season over, I am ready to have a little bit of down time and get ready for the 2017 season,” Ackerman said.
